Nothing incorrect with this style of fishing. But in my attitude its certainly an bought taste or personal preference. Id rather use spiraling/conventional reels. I feel I have more control and obviously can land larger fish with them. Plus sometimes I need to cast additional than 40ft shore fishing.
A lot of people use them here in the UK. By the looks of it he was using a maver pole. Largest i know of is 16m poles, can cost up to 3000 pounds. For a cheap 16m one you are still looking at around 1000 pounds.
Like he says you can place the bait on top of the fishes head straight away without scarying them away.

it depends on what type of fishing your doing depends on what line you have
i dont reckon i ned one that long a excellent 7 ft is excellent and a 9ft and 10 ft is excellent and shorter
