There are two different camps in wearable art, the home sewer-crafter group and the actor group. This book certainly covers only the home-sewer crafter group and will not satisfy those who want to become wearable artists, producing works fit for art galleries, art museums and foremost art to wear fashion shows. But, for a young person just starting out in making his or her own clothes and accessories, it may be too early to tell which camp he or she will ultimately join. Thus, the book is excellent for this person too. This is a machinate oriented book with excellent pictures and instructions to take one through doing the particular machinate. The author is most successful with her vests at the end of the book. I am in the actor camp of wearable art so this book does not fit me very well. I find the books which cover the work of Issey Miyake or Comme des Garcons far more suitable for my interests. This does not mean this book is not excellent but it does mean that if you are also in the actor camp, you are probably not going to find this book worth the cash. I took it out from the library and if you are an actor, I suggest you do the same.

Without being preachy, Tony Johnston reminds us that sometimes it takes a shift in perspective to recognize our treasures. Uri Shulevitz did this with THE TREASURE, a additional book of fantastic loveliness. Children may respond even more to this universal lesson through reading Johnston’s book, which is rooted in the life of one young Japanese American boy learning to like and appreciate his grandfather. The details in this book are so lovingly, affectionately included, and Barry Root’s watercolor/gouache illustrations complement Johnston’s spare, lyrical prose perfectly. This exquisite book goes beyond the 4 to 8 crowd. It touched the hearts of all my family tree – teenager included. I’ve yet to read it without feeling tears — or wanting to kick off my shoes. You’ll have to read FISHING SUNDAY to find out what that means

Japan is the world’s leading fishing nation, not only in tonnages caught but also because of the staggering amount of fish the Japanese eat – an average of 65-70 kg each per year. Moreover, Japan boasts a maritime resource management system that differs from and in several respects seems more successful than those of Western Europe and North America. It is impossible to know the present situation in Japan’s fishing industry without having a knowledge of its past. What is more, Japan’s fishing villages played a significant role in Japan’s economic development. In partitcular, during the Tokugawa cycle (1699-1868), they acted as key commercial links between the castle towns and dispersed farming communities.

The aims of this book, therefore, are twofold: first, to place martitime resource management within the larger context of social and material reproduction and, second, to analyse the fishing villages in the context of Japan’s economic history.

As a first foray into the world of LED lighting, I have mixed feelings about this one. For the most part, I like it. The light it puts out is a cool white, and it’s more like a 40-watt equivalent than the advertised 100 W, or the 60 W a additional commenter posted. But, compared to the $20-30 most brick-and-mortars want to charge for a single bulb, this is a excellent deal. It certainly works surpass in some sort of directional / canned / funneled light socket. The power draw on these makes me feel kinda dirty for using CFLs, too. Unfortunately, LEDs are still pricey. I’ll be testing out a few more from various manufacturers to find the aptly fit for me, but these are certainly worth it.

There just OK. They say equivalent to 100 watt bulb but trust me there not more like a 60 watt. They are very tiny so they look amusing in the recessed cans. They do only pull 1 watt though. So if you don’t need a real bright bulb they will save you cash on you thrilling bill.
